Whether through charity concerts, sales of sheet music, or even non-musical events such as charity walks, it is a great privilege to be able to raise money and awareness for charities close to my heart. Charities dedicated to battling cancer are particularly important to me, having lost my mother in 2015  to Myeloma, and my father in 2016 to Mesothelioma. On this page you can read my fundraising stories, keep up to date with events and fundraisers, and of course make donations. Thank you for your support.

The Hebridean Way is a long-distance walking route in the Outer Hebrides. Starting in Vatersay in the south, the 252km route takes you north, across 10 islands, ending in the town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.  Having visited the Outer Hebrides on a camping trip in 2016, I decided to return in 2017 and attempt the entire route in 10 days. The goal was to arrive in Stornoway on 6th August - one year to the day since the loss of my mother to Myeloma. To make the trek even more challenging, I wild-camped the entire route, in what turned out to be very aggressive weather!

Myeloma UK were incredibly supportive of my endeavour, and provided me with fundraising advice and also resources, which I was able to use along the way to spread the word about the wonderful research Myeloma UK carry out. Thanks to the amazing support and generosity of friends and colleagues, as well as new friends met along the journey, we raised over £1,170 on the Justgiving page.

This trek was the first long-distance walk I had attempted, and is possibly the biggest physical and mental challenge I have endured to date, but it was a rewarding and emotional journey that not only rekindled a love of the great outdoors and inspired me to do more charity walks, but also reminded me just how many wonderful, generous, and caring people there are out there - many of whom carry their one burdens and nearly all of whom endure grief of their own. To be able to play a small part in raising money in my own way, for such a good cause, was humbling.

However, there are several other long-distance routes waiting to be walked...watch this space!
